IndieLisboa's Brand New Competition is a competitive section dedicated to projects by emerging directors and first works made or not in a school context. The National Competition, on the other hand, is made up of feature and short films produced in Portugal or directed by artists with permanent residence in Portugal.
The films Summer Rains, by Mário Veloso, Happiness in a Pot, by Clara Jost and The Illusion of an Everlasting Kiss, by Marta Sousa Ribeiro, were produced as part of the Advanced Training in Film and Television course, organised by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Escola das Artes. This course brought together eight emerging directors who were accompanied by different tutors, including Lucrecia Martel, Atom Egoyan, Celine Sciama, João Canijo, Marco Martins, Luís Urbano, Rui Poças and Mariana Gaivão, in the production of their projects. It took place between September 2022 and June 2023.
The film Only after the end, by João Mendes Pinto, produced in the context of the final project of the Cinema Undergraduate, was supervised by Professor Carlos Ruiz and director João Canijo. I have never been this close, by Francisca Dores, was produced in the context of the final project of the Cinema Master, with the guidance of Professor Daniel Ribas and director Ben Rivers.
