Daniel Ribas, coordinator of the Master's in Cinema at EA and director of Citar, wrote an article in issue 94 of Cinema Scope - Spring 2023, one of the most important publications in the field of Cinema.

The article, entitled "Imitations of Life: The Melodramas of João Canijo", focuses on the films of contemporary Portuguese filmmaker João Canijo - who is also a visiting artist at EA - with emphasis on his latest diptych Bad Living/Living Bad", and approaches family, home and violence to read the director's new films, premiered and awarded at Berlinale - Berlin International Film Festival.

The project, in diptych, focuses "on a hotel from complementary angles: the story of the family running the hotel (Bad Living), and those of the guests who temporarily occupy it (Living Bad). They are pieces of the same ambitious endeavour: to portray motherly love, and how it becomes a suffocating affection.”.

Earlier this year, João Canijo won the Silver Bear Jury Prize at the 73rd edition of the Berlin International Film Festival - one of the most prestigious awards received in the history of Portuguese cinema.
