Serpentina, Anselmus’ serpent muse, a living line that can take on any shape and startle us.
Serpentina is a series of nine large-scale drawings, irregular, organic shapes done in Indian ink on tracing paper, a material I commonly employ in my work.
Serpentina is also a film. A stop-motion fantasy, a love-letter to silent cinema in which the drawings and my figure keep finding and losing one another in unusual ways.

To the crossroads from which these drawings emerge — prints by Israhel van Meckenem and Master E. S., but also Hildegard von Bingen’s depiction of the cosmos and Lucas Cranach’s Salome — the moving image now comes, as well as the mystery of music: Matteo da Perugia, Conan Osiris and the joy of whistling.
