Bio

Sandro Aguilar (1974). In 1997, he completed the Cinema course in the Editing area at the Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema. In 1998, he founded the production company O Som e a Fúria, where he works as a director, producer and editor. Mariphasa is his second feature film, the first was A Zona (2008). He made 14 short films that won awards at festivals such as La Biennale di Venezia, Locarno Film Festival, Gijón, Oberhausen, Vila do Conde, Indielisboa, Montreal and were shown at the main world film festivals. It was twice nominated for best short film at the EFA (European Film Awards). Sandro Aguilar was the subject of retrospectives at BAFICI, Rotterdam Film Festival, New York Film Festival (Views from the Avant-Garde), Arsenal-Berlin and Oberhausen. In 2013 he was invited to join the renowned DAAD – Artist in Residence, Berlin program.
