Mário, an eight-year-old boy, lives by begging for money in the tourist paradise of Madeira.
It is still night when he wakes up.
He supports the family now that his father has passed away and his mother is awaiting surgery in the hospital.
When he grows up, he wants to be a whale hunter. "But no one hunts whales anymore," says the fisherman Carlos, on that dawn when he gives him a ride to Funchal. However, Mário dreams of them. They are big.
And big are also the tourists who, every day, arrive on the island.
Mário and his friends divide the city and the tourists among themselves...
