Between May 7 and 9, the School of Arts presents a three-session film cycle dedicated to the work of Sarah Maldoror.
Featuring both short and feature-length films, the sessions will take place at the Ilídio Pinho Auditorium and Cinema Trindade, and are curated by François Piron.
We will be joined by François Piron and Henda Ducados for the sessions on May 8 and 9.
This cycle is part of the Spring Seminar 2025, titled Politics of Curatorship, and also integrates the programme of the exhibition Profundidade de Campo by Mónica de Miranda, currently on view at the School of Arts’ Exhibition Hall and the Galeria Municipal do Porto.
Born in 1929 in southern France, Sarah Maldoror was a filmmaker whose work is deeply connected to the struggles for independence in several African nations during the 1960s and 1970s — a cause to which she dedicated many of her films.
Over the course of her career, she directed more than 45 films of various genres and lengths, alongside nearly as many projects that, for different reasons, were never completed.
