Art History VI

4 ECTS / Semestral / English, Portuguese

This curricular unit aims to provide students with a broad, deep and critical knowledge of the various artistic practices and manifestations from 1945 to the beginning of the 21st century, and the respective theoretical and critical discourses that inform them.

At the end of the curricular unit, students must develop the following skills:

a) Knowing the various artistic practices from 1945 to the beginning of the 21st century, identifying the main players.
b) Identify some formal, aesthetic and conceptual characteristics of the aforementioned artistic practices;
c) Establish a lasting relationship between chronology, historical, and geographical specificities and artistic movements;
d) Understand the theoretical and critical discourses that inform these artistic practices;
e) Understand the themes of post-modernity, post-colonialism, post-humanism, postmedium condition and alterity(ies), articulated with artistic practices.
