As part of the Drawing Languages course, part of the Sound and Image degree at the School of Arts, students visited the exhibition of Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama at Serralves last week.

The guided tour gave the students a deeper insight into the biography and work processes of this internationally renowned artist, who has been active for over 70 years and has produced countless works of worldwide importance, which were discussed in class.

Yayoi Kusama has emerged as a global cultural icon of the 21st century by persisting in her uncompromising avant-garde vision. Over the last seven decades, this artist has refined a singular personal aesthetic, alongside a fundamental philosophy of life. Kusama's work captivates millions of people by allowing a glimpse of limitless space and reflections on the natural cycles of regeneration. Yayoi Kusama: 1945 - Today tells the story of the artist's life and work, highlighting her desire for interconnection and the profound questions about existence that guide her creative explorations.

These visits are organized in collaboration with the Serralves Foundation, with which the School of Arts has a long-standing partnership.
