On Tuesday, December 17, the Academy announced the list of 15 titles to make up the shortlist for Best Animated Short Film. The animated film “Percebes”, by Alexandra Ramires and Laura Gonçalves, is among the finalists.
Produced by the BAP Animation cooperative, Percebes is a documentary, animated in watercolor and digital, about the life cycle of this crustacean in the context of harvesting in the Algarve, with the two directors also addressing questions about the relationship of local inhabitants with the sea, tourism and the disordering of the Portuguese coast.
Alexandra Ramires is a professor at School of Arts and is on the teaching staff of the animation specialization of the master's degree in sound and image.
The final nominations will be revealed on January 17, 2025 and the 97th Oscar ceremony will take place in Los Angeles on March 2.

Synopsis: With the sea and an urban Algarve as a backdrop, we follow the complete life cycle of a special mollusc called PERCEBES. In the journey from its formation to the plate, we cross different contexts that allow us to better understand this region and those who inhabit it.
