Porto is preparing to host the IV Colóquio Português de Ourivesaria, an event of great importance for the preservation and promotion of goldsmithing in Portugal. The meeting will take place on April 14 and 15, 2025, at the Ordem Terceira de São Francisco do Porto and Universidade Católica Portuguesa.
Coordinated by Professor Gonçalo de Vasconcelos e Sousa, the IV Colóquio Português de Ourivesaria, organized by the Ordem Terceira de São Francisco do Porto in partnership with CITAR, aims to take stock of recent studies into this art, exploring its history, influences and new trends.
The IV edition of the scientific event will feature two international guests who, in the opening and closing lectures, will bring different readings on aspects of European goldsmithing.
Since its first edition in 1997, the Colóquio Ourivesaria has been a fundamental milestone in the dissemination of scientific advances in this field. The proceedings of previous meetings - held in 1997, 2008 and 2011 - have made it possible to publish a series of studies of great value to the knowledge of this art at a national level, demonstrating the progress made in research into the different aspects of silverware and jewelry in Portugal.
CIONP - CENTRO INTERPRETATIVO DA OURIVESARIA DO NORTE DE PORTUGAL
CIONP, founded in 2009 and attached to CITAR, the scientific research center of the School of Arts of the Portuguese Catholic University, aims to be a body that brings together the various aspects related to researching and recording the history of this art, as well as promoting new design related to goldsmithing in this region of the country.
