Inclusion and Diversity in Education for Cinema – This is the title of another session in the Alimentar uma Causa conversation series, an initiative promoted by the Serralves Foundation, in scientific partnership with the Catholic University of Porto.
Cinema is one of the most impactful forms of artistic expression and experience for children and young people. The power of audiovisual media in contemporary life highlights the importance of the seventh art in developing a critical eye and thought about images and sounds. Various ongoing programs and projects promote education for cinema, both inside and outside schools, between appreciation and practice, but not always with the ability to include all communities or break down different geographical, cultural, or social barriers. This session will explore the educational relevance of cinema to propose different ways of integrating cinema into education, particularly focused on ensuring inclusion and diversity. The session will address perspectives and current programs that promote inclusion and diversity in cinema education.
