The full programme for the 32nd edition of the Curtas Vila do Conde International Film Festival is now known, and includes five EA films. From 12 to 21 July, the Vila do Conde Municipal Theatre will stage the work of renowned authors and emerging talents from the world of cinema.
The film Cantos da Metamorfose or Aquela vez em que eu incarnei como Boto, by alumna Ainá Xisto, produced in the context of the Cinema Master, is part of the Experimental Competition. This is one of the most important competitive sections of its genre, both nationally and internationally, and has already featured filmmakers such as Deborah Stratman, Ben Rivers, Charlotte Pryce, Sky Hopinca, Mryam Tafakory, Kamal Aljafari, Carla Andrade and Morgan Quaintance, the latter of whom will be featured in the 2024 edition and will have an exhibition at Solar - Galeria de Arte Cinemática.
Gardunha, by Ana Vilela da Costa, produced in the context of the Advanced Training Course Escola das Artes / Fundação Gulbenkian, and Nunca estive tão perto, by alumna Francisca Dores, produced in the context of the Cinema Master, will be screened in the Take One! Competition, dedicated exclusively to school films, promoting contemporary perspectives from the new generation of Portuguese filmmakers.
The films Pedra Seca, by Luísa Mello and Maria Henriqueta Esteve Aqui, by Nuno Pimentel, produced as part of the Escola das Artes / Fundação Gulbenkian Advanced Training Course, will be present at the Industry Screenings, reserved for professionals.
Also, the feature film Estamos no Ar, by Diogo Costa Amarante, a professor at EA's Cinema Undergraduate and Cinema Master, will be screened in a special session at the Vila do Conde Municipal Theatre.
The festival once again has the partnership of EA, which supports the National Competition Prize, worth €1,500, in addition to the films by EA teachers and students, which have been part of its programme and received awards.

Synopsis
Life is Metamorphosis, bounding from being to being as new ways of saying “I”. In 16mm, Ainá Xisto prints an abyssal record guided by a more-than-human relationship through dreamlike landscapes, creating a magical reality inhabited by real characters, open up to dialogue and to others.

Synopsis
A woman on the run and in despair ends up in a Portuguese rural area known for its supernatural phenomena.
M. is an electronic music artist. She seeks refuge in a rural area after a personal event we are not aware of. The contrast between the surrounding space and M. is evident. She is a profoundly urban person in a profoundly rural space. The shortfilm shows less than 48 hours of M’s life. As she goes deep into the wild, M. finds herself confronted with an unexpected reality, phenomena that her rational mind cannot understand, gloomy and inexplicable sounds and close encounters.
What starts as a run ends up as a transcendental trip where her vision of the world is put into question, culminating in an encounter with other worlds.

In a rural periphery amid transformation, agricultural machines devastate the fields and the places are haunted by an eternal gloom. Out of the flames, the bells are reborn, invoking the presence of the community.
