24 SEP - 15h00 - Exhibition Hall
During the month of September, the Escola das Artes will launch its Educational Program with an activity integrated into the Enciclopédia Negra exhibition. The Educa EArtes program aims to generate educational programs on contemporary art, involving schools, communities and specialized audiences. By aligning itself with SDG and EU policies, the program seeks to create inclusive and sustainable cultural and educational environments.
Presentation of the program
This program promotes the integration, knowledge and exploration of contemporary arts for school audiences, communities in close proximity, specialized audiences and cultural mediators, in line with EU policies to promote sustainability, diversity, equity and inclusion.
Its implementation comprises three vectors:
- Schools: Understanding and appreciation of contemporary art in educational contexts.
- Communities: Promoting community involvement through artistic initiatives.
- Mediation: Encouraging specialized artistic dialogue, fostering cultural enrichment and knowledge through art.

Its first activity will take place as part of the Enciclopédia Negra exhibition and will be a conversation between Marta Lança and Maria Coutinho on September 24 at 3pm, entitled “Dialogues on the historical representation of black people: artistic and historiographical renewal based on Enciclopédia Negra and the place of pedagogy and education.”
Enciclopédia Negra, an exhibition curated by Flávio Gomes, Jaime Lauriano and Lilia Moritz Schwarcz, features 104 portraits produced by 36 contemporary artists of black personalities who shaped Brazilian culture, society and history.
For the first time outside Brazil, the exhibition has profound relevance as a critical gesture of historical recovery by highlighting black figures who have been marginalized or omitted from the main historical narratives, denouncing the racism and continued whitewashing to which they have been subjected.
