In-Person Cycle returns to Galeria Vera Cortês with Angela Detanico/Rafael Lain

Friday, March 21, 2025 - 14:41

Next Saturday, March 22, Galeria Vera Cortês in Lisbon will host the second session of In-Person, a conversation series that fosters dialogue between artists, curators, collectors, and researchers. The event will take place at 6:30 PM and will feature artists Angela Detanico/Rafael Lain in conversation with Nuno Crespo, director of Escola das Artes.

The discussion takes place in the context of the exhibition Jardim Infinito, which opened last Thursday and will be on view until May 3. In this show, Detanico/Lain present three distinct series where language reveals itself as both a tool for communication and an instrument for interpreting and questioning different cultures. Oscillating between rudimentary and advanced technology, their works take on various forms, including text, image, animation, sound, and installation.

In-Person is an initiative by Escola das Artes in collaboration with Galeria Vera Cortês. Based on the gallery's exhibition program, the series creates a space for reflection on the complexity of artistic practices, their dynamics, and their place within the art system, the market, institutions, culture, and politics.

About the Artists
Angela Detanico (1974) and Rafael Lain (1973) are Brazilian artists based in Paris. Their work explores the representation of reality through language, codes, and visual systems, proposing new forms of translation between text, sound, and image. Drawing inspiration from various fields of knowledge—including the history of ideas, astronomy, philosophy, literature, and art history—the duo creates sculptures, installations, texts, performances, and drawings that reconsider the construction of meaning in contemporary art. The experience and conceptualization of time are central themes in their research.

Their work has been showcased in renowned international institutions such as Centre Pompidou, Palais de Tokyo, and Grand Palais (France); Moderna Museet (Sweden); CCS Bard Hessel Museum (USA); Mudam (Luxembourg); National Museum of Contemporary Art (Greece); ICC (Japan); Laboratorio de Arte Alameda (Mexico); Malba (Argentina); and Henry Moore Institute (UK).
