The Research Center received an "Excellent" rating in the evaluation. On April 15, 2025, FCT concluded the preliminary results of the "Evaluation of R&D Units 2023/2024", maintaining CITAR's top rating of "Excellent". In addition, the research center at School of Arts had the highest rating in the three criteria analyzed by the international evaluation panel.

Daniel Ribas, the center's director, points out that, with this evaluation, “CITAR consolidates its place as one of the most relevant research centers in the field of artistic studies, seeing its activity and prestige confirmed by an international panel”. CITAR thus has a very positive assessment of its activity during the period from 2018 to 2024, as well as scientific validation of the Strategic Plan for 2025-2029.

“CITAR and the School of Arts have developed an intense artistic research activity in recent years and their commitment to the interdisciplinarity of their focus areas - Cinema and Visual Arts; Sound and New Media Art; Heritage, Conservation and Restoration - has now been widely recognized by experts from various fields of knowledge in the context of artistic studies,” continues Daniel Ribas. “It was a continuous effort by the Center's researchers, as well as a team that includes PhD students and professors from School of Arts.”

Over the next five years, CITAR will receive 1.8 million euros to develop its Strategic Plan.
