Carla Felizardo speaks about the challenges of conservation and restoration at a conference in Macau

Yesterday, at the University of Saint Joseph in Macau, Carla Felizardo, Coordinator of the Degree in Conservation and Restoration at the School of Arts of the Portuguese Catholic University, gave a talk entitled “The Preservation of Cultural and Artistic Heritage: Current Challenges in the Field of Conservation and Restoration”. The event, organized by the History and Heritage Department of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, was held in English and was free to attend.

During the session, Carla Felizardo delved into the concept of preserving historical and artistic heritage, highlighting the importance of the role of the conservator-restorer. Who is this professional? What are their roles and responsibilities? What is their training? These were the main questions addressed during the talk.  

During the talk, the professor explained the various roles and responsibilities of the conservator-restorer, as well as their training and the decision-making process in choosing the most appropriate intervention methodologies for each object or collection. In addition, she presented a brief historical analysis of the evolution of this field, reflecting on how techniques and approaches in conservation and restoration have changed over time.

With this event, the University of Saint Joseph provided an important platform for discussion on heritage preservation.
