Sound Production for Video Games

5 ECTS / Semester / English, Portuguese

Sound is the object of study of the present C.U., focusing on its use in the context of video games. This medium adds, among others, the interactive dimension to the integration between sound and image. The soundtrack is reconstructed at every turn, which implies a set of unique techniques and perceptual dimensions. It is intended that students, throughout this C.U., will acquire the following specific skills:

a) To use critical thinking in the assessment of the technical and aesthetical quality of video games sound design;
b) To know and show technical proficiency in the production and implementation of sound for video games;
c) To be familiar with the main existing stages, teams and tools for the production of sound for a video game;
d) To understand the different languages in a game design project.
