Although it arose in a logic of experimentation and anthropological-scientific curiosity, cinema developed as an art under the optic of narrative expression. History of Cinema I will introduce the student to the beginnings of cinema and some of the most striking expressions, movements, works and authors within the search and establishment of reference models for film narration. After completing this curricular unit, students should be able to:

a) Demonstrate solid knowledge about the beginnings of cinema and its essential concepts.

b) Enumerate and characterize the beginnings of cinema, distinguishing the transition between the cinema of attractions and narrative cinema.

c) Identify and characterize the most important moments of the first decades of cinema.

d) Characterize the definition of American classical cinema and the invisible continuity.
