Rui Xavier (Porto, 1974) completed his bachelor's degree in Audiovisual Communication Technologies at the Porto Polytechnic Institute in 1995, becoming interested in photography and cinema. He continued his studies in the United Kingdom, completing, in 1997, a Postgraduate Degree in Photojournalism, in Cardiff, at the University of Wales. He worked in London as a photographer for the daily “The Independent”. In 1998, he returned to Portugal to work as a freelancer, creating the Kameraphoto collective with other photographers. He began experimenting with video in the documentary area, founding Ricochete Filmes with Bruno Gonçalves. From 2003 to 2005, he was photography editor at Grande Reportagem magazine. Since 2006, he has experimented in various areas of film production, especially as director of photography for directors such as Cláudia Varejão, Salomé Lamas, Sandro Aguilar or Basil da Cunha.
