Generic Bio

Ben Russell (Massachusetts, 1976) is an artist, curator and filmmaker whose work lies at the intersection of ethnography and psychedelism.

His films and installations emerge from a permanent dialogue with the history and semiotics of the documentary image, in a re-examination of the codes and the immersive and mimetic potential of the cinematographic apparatus, which frames a research of wide temporal and geographical spectrum around ritual practice and altered states of consciousness, and which evokes the works of authors such as Jean Rouch, Maya Deren or Michael Snow.
