Bio

Amélia Vieira (Guimarães, 2002) is drawn to artistic expressions with strong narrative power, with a particular admiration for cinema, photography, and animation — and for their inherent ability to convey the world to audiences through symbols, light, colour, and sensations.
It was her desire to study these forms, gain a solid foundation, and acquire hands-on experience that led her to pursue a degree in Sound and Image. During her studies, she discovered her main interest lies in working within the fields of Cinematography and Art Direction.

Umbra
 – installation

An installation that adopts a scenographic aesthetic. The concept explores the relationship between human beings and their intrinsic characteristics — the disregard for them, the aversion to ageing, to decay and loss, and the pursuit of material perfection. It reflects our desire to optimise our abilities, often at the cost of sacrificing what we deem unpleasant in the process.
The atmosphere evokes a fictional essence, with fantastical lighting and an enigmatic central piece. Yet, the viewer is free to interpret it. The narrative unfolds in the mind of each observer, who walks through the space surrounding the concealed humanoid creature.
