Born in Evander, South Africa, in 1978. Lives and works in Porto.
She has a degree in Fine Arts/Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto. She holds a PhD with an International Mention in Fine Arts from the University of Vigo. She was an FCT scholarship holder (BD) and a researcher in residence at the Academy of Fine Arts Helsinki. She has been teaching at the Portuguese Catholic University's School of Arts since 2003 and is a researcher at CITAR's R&D unit in the sub-area of Cinema and Visual Arts. She exhibits occasionally, mainly in independent spaces in the city of Porto. She collaborated with Arlindo Silva on a project between 2003 and 2008. She was a production assistant at Galeria Presença.
She has collaborated with visual artists in independent (co)editorial practices, as in the case of the magazine Leonorana #2, Famílias (2018), at the invitation of Isabel Carvalho, or the writing of “Nem luz nem sombra, a luz que acolhe” (2023) published in the book A mão que segura e a que se eleva no ar, at the invitation of Isabel Baraona and Susana Gaudêncio. In 2023, she published the book Prova de Luz: 21 Poses as part of the project "Participo! Women's Civic and Political Participation" funded by the EEA Grants Portugal Program. She has contributed to the UCP scientific journals JSTA (2023) and Diffractions (2019) as a scientific committee member. She has been a guest juror for several higher education degrees, and has collaborated in the Artistic Aptitude Tests at the Soares dos Reis Secondary School of Art.
She is currently developing two research projects: “Errâncias: Ensaios Itinerantes para a Inscrição da Matrilinearidade Artística” in collaboration with Alexandra Balona, Carla Cruz, Ece Canli and Kitty Furtado; & “Self as Image - Women Photographers' Gaze Through Collaborative Practices”, which is also shaped by collaborative practices and co-authorship, in this specific case with former students. The fields of action include the concepts of Matrixial Web; Feminist Ethics; Unlearning the Discipline; Emancipation in Art; The Gaze of the Camera; Visual Activism; Emancipatory Images; Art Photography and Popular Culture. Subjects already pointed out in her doctoral thesis “Intimacy beyond the surface: the work in dialog between artists”.
