Critical Metaphor of “O Jardim”
Conference
Auditório Ilídio Pinho

This session between Djaimilia Pereira de Almeida and Vasco Araújo focuses on the analysis of the video O Jardim (2005), aiming to contextualise, interpret, and critically examine the colonial legacy of Lisbon’s Tropical Garden, as well as other public and private structures in Portugal that, to this day, have undergone little to no historical revision.

The Stranger
The 2025 annual programme of concerts, talks, exhibitions and performances, organised by the School of Arts and CITAR, seeks to explore the question of the Foreigner. The programme is curated by Djaimilia Pereira de Almeida, Daniel Ribas, José Alberto Gomes, and Nuno Crespo.

Vasco Araújo is a prominent name in the contemporary art scene. Winner of the EDP New Artists Award in 2003, he has since exhibited both individually and collectively at renowned institutions and events such as the Serralves Museum, Gasworks, Jeu de Paume, Venice Biennale, and Palais de Tokyo. His work spans painting, sculpture, photography, and film, often addressing themes such as memory, identity, and theatricality through immersive transmedia installations. His work is represented in several public and private collections.
