DocLisboa and School of Arts joint program

Tuesday, October 1, 2024 - 16:47

This year, School of Arts and CITAR are developing a partnership program with DocLisboa - International Film Festival, awarding the Arché Prize and organizing a joint round table on film programming.

As has been the case since 2020, SoA supports the Arché Prize, which contributes €2,500 to projects in development.

Arché residents will present their films, characterized by different approaches, for an exchange of experiences with industry and film professionals. The selected projects can be found on the festival's website.

Arché is a space for development and creative thinking, which aims to provide tools and moments of reflection and training for the creation of new film projects, as well as offering a space for international professional agents to meet in an environment of great sharing. It hosts 12 film projects from Ibero-American countries and Italy and consists of a 5-day program that includes project development workshops with tutors, project presentation sessions and individual meetings with industry professionals, among other activities.  In 2024, Arché's activities will take place between October 20th and 24th. During these days, participants will take part in project development workshops with tutors Helena Girón (director and teacher, Spain), Samuel Delgado (director and teacher, Spain) and Tiago Hespanha (director and producer, Portugal).

Also supporting the component of thinking about cinema, the School of Arts and CITAR are co-organizing, with DocLisboa, the round table “Programming and curating: perspectives on non-fiction cinema”. This panel will take place on October 25 at 3pm at Culturgest - Fórum Debates and will be moderated by CITAR's Director, Daniel Ribas

This panel examines the dynamics involved in programming and curating independent non-fiction cinema. We will focus on the approaches taken to select and screen independent films and how these practices affect the visibility and distribution of these works. Presented by Doclisboa, Seminário el Público del Futuro and Universidade Católica Portuguesa through CITAR (Center for Research in Science and Technology of the Arts) and the School of Arts.

Speakers: Cecilia Barrionuevo (ECAM), Isabel Rojas (FICUNAM), Jean-Pierre Rehm (critic and theorist), Rada Šešić (critic and curator), Richard Peña (Columbia University) Moderator: Daniel Ribas (Portuguese Catholic University).

Also in partnership with DocLisboa, the Escola das Artes presents a masterclass with Richard Peña, at the Ilídio Pinho Auditorium, on October 28 at 6:30 p.m.
