Laboratory Pratices and Techniques

3 ECTS / Semestral / English, Portuguese

Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:

  • Knowledge of basic chemistry techniques and unit operations, preparation of solutions and solvents, handling of chemical compounds, storage, toxicology and waste separation.
  • Skills in graphical representation of experimental data and basic statistical treatment. Writing scientific reports in the field of chemistry.
  • Acquisition of skills in sampling heritage objects, sample treatment, resin mounting and observation under an optical microscope.
  • Theoretical knowledge and ability to carry out basic laboratory chemistry techniques that enable the identification of artistic materials (pigments and binders).
  • Theoretical knowledge and ability to carry out basic laboratory techniques in biology and microbiology that enable rapid diagnosis of the presence of organisms involved in the biodeterioration of materials in works to be intervened upon.
