SAAL Neon is an ongoing research project based on the state housing construction programme, SAAL (Serviço de Apoio Ambulatório Local), which emerged after the 25 April Revolution in Portugal and tried to meet the housing needs of disadvantaged populations.
 
At the School of Arts of the Catholic University, in two acts, the artist Ângela Ferreira takes up this project and inaugurates in the Exhibition Room a constellation of works around this extensive research and a lumpen sculpture on the façade of the Arts Building.

The SAAL theme chosen here as the motto for the work focuses on the participatory side of the inhabitants who collaborated in the construction of their homes. The sculpture animates an image left over from a film showing the transport of a bucket of cement between characters. The human and collaborative aspect of building a new society is celebrated here.
