School of Arts at Doclisboa 2025

Thursday, October 2, 2025 - 18:42

The School of Arts will once again participate in Doclisboa 2025, one of Portugal's most important film festivals dedicated to the documentary genre.

This participation is part of a strategic collaboration with Arché – Espaço de Pensamento e Desenvolvimento Criativo (Arché – Space for Thought and Creative Development), renewing a partnership that has been supporting the creation and development of new film projects. The SoA will once again award the Prize School of Arts of Universidade Católica Portuguesa – Special Jury Prize for Best Arché Project in the Writing or Development Phase, worth €2,500.

As part of the program, the festival will also feature filmmaker Ross McElwee, an international guest who will come to Portugal to present “Remake,” his first film in 14 years. After his appearance at DocLisboa, Ross McElwee will be at School to conduct a masterclass. +info

Also at this 23rd edition of Doclisboa, the film “O Fantasma da Virgem”, by Patricia Pereyra, a doctoral student at School of Arts, was selected for the Green Years section, a production made as the final project of our Master's in Cinema.

The film takes us to Santo Stefano, Bologna, where there is a group of churches that, before becoming Christian, were pagan temples dedicated to Isis. In Porto, there is a student who, while restoring a virgin, imagines her origins, intertwining the visible and the invisible, science and essence. Does an object exist if it has no matter?
