Laura Anahory's animated short film “O Pássaro de Dentro” won the Best Portuguese Short Film Junior Jury award at Monstra 2025. The film was made as part of the Master's in Animation at School of Arts and was awarded in the ‘Students’ competition.
The jury that awarded the prize, made up of Ana Julia Bonini, Inês Rebelo and Maria Guerra, described the film as follows: “Through a powerful and symbolic visual narrative, this animation sensitively portrays the protagonist's internal conflict, transforming the pain of her duality into a poetic and deeply human experience that captured our attention completely.”
It should be remembered that “O Pássaro de Dentro" had previously been awarded an honorable mention at the World Animation Festival 2024, in the Schools category.
Also during the 25th edition of Monstra - Lisbon Animation Festival, the short film “Percebes”, by Alexandra Ramires and Laura Gonçalves, won the Vasco Granja Grand Prize - SPA, and was also chosen by the public as the best animated short. Another award after being nominated for the 2025 Oscar candidates. In 2025, the work was included in the list of nominees for the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film, after a remarkable journey through national and international festival circuits.
“Percebes” was directed by teacher Alexandra Ramires and produced by teachers Vasco Sá and David Doutel, with sound by Bernardo Bento and Ricardo Salazar and the collaboration of Animation Master's trainees Ana Rita Terra and Maria Contente.
The Animation Festival, which this year took place from March 20 to 30, has already set a new date for 2026, from March 12 to 22. +info
