Gonçalo de Vasconcelos e Sousa, Full Professor at the School of Arts, was sworn in as a foreign correspondent member of the Brazilian Historical and Geographical Institute, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, founded on 2 October 1838 and considered to be "the oldest and most traditional entity for promoting historical-geographical, cultural and social science research and preservation in Brazil". The ceremony took place at the IHGB headquarters, in the presence of the institution's President, Dr Victorino Chermont de Miranda, and the Consul General of Portugal in Rio de Janeiro, Ambassador Gabriela Soares de Albergaria (alumnaUCP). Prof Vasconcelos e Sousa took advantage of his stay in Rio de Janeiro to give several lectures, namely at the Real Gabinete Português de Leitura and at the Palácio de São Clemente.
