Antares · Adriana Molder
FEB 7 - MAY 4, 2025
Curator: Nuno Crespo
“Antares”, Adriana Molder's most recent exhibition, opens on February 6 at 6pm at the Torreão Nascente Gallery of the Cordoaria Nacional in Lisbon. It brings together several series of work by the artist, including Serpentina, an exhibition presented at School of Arts in 2023.
Antares, a red superstar belonging to the constellation of Scorpio, considered to be one of the four guardian stars of the sky, gives its name to the exhibition which brings together a number of new works: Aleph, Antares, Serpentine and Shadows.
Serpentina, an exhibition resulting from the artist's residency at School of Arts in 2023, presents a set of nine large-scale drawings, with irregular and organic shapes, also made in ink on rough paper. Serpentine is also a movie, a stop-motion fantasy with a particular love of silent films, in which the drawings and the figure of the artist meet and lose each other in an unusual way.
The new series of works appear in dialog with older works dating back to 1998, a combination that allows very different times to be articulated within these works, even though there is no anthological ambition. At the same time, this meeting provides an insight into the wide range of references used by this artist to construct the personas of her drawings and paintings.
In addition to the presentation of new works and the way in which in this exhibition new ways of developing the exhibition design emerge, intensifying a very specific idea of installation, there is an approach to this artist's research process. A process that has been transforming itself and gaining new configurations and formulations. The combination of a video-performance, drawings on paper and paintings-object-sculpture suspended in space densifies and complexifies the way Molder has been working, but also challenges us to develop new ways of experiencing and understanding her works.
