Porto Summer School on Art & Cinema 2023: Party Studies ended last Saturday, July 8. The fifth edition of the advanced course in art and cinema was a success and exceeded expectations, with a large turnout that sold out several sessions of the cultural program made available free of charge by the School of Arts.
Many workshops, performances, talks, film sessions, parties and a lot of diversity fit in this edition that brought to Porto a group of artists, directors, curators and performers to discuss the theme of the Festival.
For a week, the participants enrolled in the Summer School studied (and practiced) FESTA, as a concept of change and to cultivate otherness. During each day, participants had the opportunity to attend workshops with Pedro Duarte, Clareese Hill, Marie de Brugerolle and Jazmin Lopez, Bárbara Wagner and Benjamin de Burca, Ngo Chun Tse, Carla Filipe and Post Brothers, Piny and Leo Soulflow, Jessica Mitrani.
Over six days, with an intense program inside and outside the doors, the Summer School featured activities open to the community that took place in the evening. Porto Summer School on Art & Cinema took place between July 3 and 8, at Escola das Artes, Batalha Centro de Cinema, Serralves and Passos Manuel.
The final balance of the workshops and public sessions could not be better. Tim Bernardes opened the program on the evening of Monday, July 3, selling out the seats available for the event - more than 250 people were present at the School of Arts to attend the conference-performance of the Brazilian singer. On Tuesday, the Batalha Centro de Cinema was packed for the screening of the film "Si yo fuero el invierno mismo", with the presence of director Jazmín López and mediation by Marie de Brugerolle. On Wednesday, Serralves hosted a presentation of films directed by Bárbara Wagner and Benjamin de Burca, followed by a conversation with the duo. On Thursday and Friday, the events were dedicated to dance, with a party at Passos Manuel, which featured performances by DJ Abraxas and Rare Romance, and at Escola das Artes with Piny, Leo Soulflow, André Cabral and Baronesa. Teatro Praga closed the public program on Saturday, July 8, bringing together the collective's most recent works, but also some unpublished works, which had the special participation of several guests.
