School of Arts is once again partnering with Porto/Post/Doc: Film & Media Festival, hosting two masterclasses open to the public with prominent names in contemporary cinema. The sessions will take place on November 26 and 27, at 6:30 p.m., in the Ilídio Pinho Auditorium, at the School of Arts.
Filmmaker Lina Soualem, of French-Palestinian-Algerian origin, will be at the School of Arts for a masterclass where she will talk about her work on November 26. This year, Porto/Post/Doc is dedicating a retrospective to the director's work.
Biographical note
French-Palestinian-Algerian filmmaker and actress, born and based in Paris. After studying History and Political Science at La Sorbonne University, Lina worked as a programmer for the International Human Rights Film Festival in Buenos Aires. Lina’s debut feature documentary Their Algeria premiered in Visions du Réel 2020 and received several awards. Lina acted in four feature films directed by Hafsia Herzi, Hiam Abbass, Rayhana and Cédric Kahn. In 2020, she worked as a researcher and writer on the TV series Oussekine (Disney+). Her second feature length documentary, Bye Bye Tiberias premiered in 2023 in Venice International Film Festival and received several awards. Bye Bye Tiberias was chosen to represent Palestine at the Oscars 2024, was nominated as Best Documentary at the 2024 Film Independent Spirit Awards, at the European Film Awards 2024 and at the 2025 César in France.
