The cultural and creative sector is characterized by having creativity and intellectual capital as its main values. Its multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary nature requires collaboration and cooperation processes that bring together creative skills and management skills. It thus has, by design, new concepts, products, contents, as well as their implementation in new and different business models better adapted to the contemporary world.

It covers a wide range of activities - Architecture, Arts and Antiques, Crafts, Design, Fashion Design, Film and Video, Advertising, Interactive Entertainment Software, Music, Performing Arts, Publishing, Computer Software and Services, Television and Radio – or that is, industries that intersect creativity, art, business and technology. The result is the emergence of a sector, based on cultural products, ideas, concepts, talent and innovation, pointing to new paths for those who want to discover how to create new professional spaces in a society in which the ability to create and execute is crucial.

The main objective of this Program, a joint initiative with Católica Porto Business School, is to qualify professionals based on the interdisciplinary study of techniques, processes and methods to respond to the demand of the productive sector of the cultural and creative sector.

a. Characteristics

The Program has a multipurpose curriculum, covering subjects such as “Business Management and Strategy in Creative Industries”, “Art, Culture and Creative Industries”, “Legislation in the Cultural and Creative Sectors”, “Creativity”, “Marketing, Branding and Business”, “Technologies in Creative Practices” or “Project Management and Business Plan”.

The 1st curricular year promotes skills and knowledge in the areas of:

  • creativity, business management and strategy, legislation in the cultural and creative sectors,
  • management, business plan and financing, internationalization, marketing and branding, technologies, project evaluation and impact.

The 2nd year allows you to choose between:

  •  creative entrepreneurship (Final Project)
  •  research (Dissertation)
  •  vocational training (Internship).

b. Main Objectives

  • Train specialists in the application of knowledge in terms of financial, legal and operational management of the creative sector.
  •      Increase the efficiency, effectiveness and economic and sociocultural impact of cultural and creative projects.
  •      Foster the creation of a critical mass that reflects the creative industries sector.
  •      To make known the main national cultural practices and the ways in which they influence the development of the creative industries.

In the end, the student will be able to reflect on this field of action, namely to investigate and critically analyze processes related to the idealization, creation, development and operation of the cultural and creative sector, strengthening the ability to visualize new business opportunities and find solutions to real problems in the sector.

 

c. Professional Outlets

The Master in Creative Industries Management is able to:

  • Develop technical-scientific activities in the areas of knowledge related to the identification of business opportunities in the Cultural and Creative Sector.
  • Research the process of designing, developing and analyzing activities focused on the Cultural and Creative sector.
  • Analysethe context and prospective scenarios of the organizational environment, related to the development of activities in the Cultural and Creative Sector.
  • Conduct processes in the Cultural and Creative Sector in relation to the management of organizational processes and routines.
  • Elaborate fundraising projects to finance the activities of the Cultural and Creative Sector.
  • Create, manage and execute sustainable projects within the economic/cultural logics that characterize the Sector.
  • Facilitate meetings and critical reflections on the role, characteristics and movements of the Sector in the context of today's changing society.
  •  Manage projects in dialogue with the public authorities and other organizations related to the sector.
