The Dashed Concerts are an integral part of the annual programme of concerts, conferences, exhibitions, and performances organised by the School of Arts and CITAR, and this year they aim to explore the question of the foreigner, under the curatorship of Djaimilia Pereira de Almeida, Daniel Ribas, and Nuno Crespo.
This edition of the Dashed Concerts is curated by José Alberto Gomes.
Following Derrida in his writings on hospitality, we will ask ourselves whether the question of the foreigner is not, in fact, a question from the foreigner—that is, a question that comes from elsewhere, from outside.
This suggestion invites us to confront the recalcitrant nature of the foreigner’s arrival, the strangeness it brings, how it unsettles us, and what it carries.
The question of the foreigner is thus conceived as a challenge posed by the one who arrives—a challenge that begins with the very conditions of that arrival.
