Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:

  • To understand the evolution of fabrics as a support for painting.
  • Distinguish between natural and chemical textile fibres.
  • Know the internal and external structure and chemical behaviour of natural and chemical fibres.
  • Gain autonomy in collecting and preparing fibres for microscopic observation.
  • Identify different textile fibres using optical microscopy.
  • Use the optical microscope, the attached camera and the necessary resources for laboratory work.
  • Master the degradation phenomena of natural cellulosic fibres.
  • Evaluate the effects of degradation on cellulose pictorial supports.
  • Use different pH measuring equipment.
  • Understand the various stages of manual paper production.
  • Understand the process of transforming skin into leather and parchment.
  • Know the artistic applications of leather and parchment.
  • Master technical vocabulary.
