Materials and Technologies III

3 ECTS / Semestral / English, Portuguese

At the end of the curricular unit, students who have completed it will be able to:

  • Knowledge of the characteristics and properties, advantages and limitations of the different adhesives, consolidants and coatings used in conservation;
  • Knowledge of the physical and chemical degradation processes of these materials;
  • Critical capacity to select the most suitable materials for each conservation and restoration intervention;
  • Ability to distinguish between the various types of surface deposits - dirt, dust, contaminants, alteration products, varnishes, waxes, insulating films, repaints;
  • Knowledge of the various methods and materials associated with cleaning polychrome and non-polychrome surfaces;
  • Critical ability to select the most appropriate cleaning methodologies for each conservation and restoration intervention.
