Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:

THEORY:

Optics:

a) Present the basic concepts on the physical nature of light and its main properties with regard to its respective production, propagation and perception.

b) Introduce concepts about optical geometry, optical phenomena in nature, and instruments that explore optical principles.

c) Introduction to the principles of human vision, visual perception and color theory.

Photography:

a) To situate and characterize the striking trends in photography from the 19th century to the present day.

b) Recognize authors —literary and artistic —who represent decisive discourses in photography.

c) Critically reflect on the photographic image.

Moving Image:

a) Characterize and distinguish the various movements / trends in cinema throughout history.

b) Develop a critical reflection on the digital revolution in cinema and its importance for independent cinema.

c) Critically reflect on the characteristics of cinema today, projecting them into the future.

d) Know the vocabulary used in the audiovisual context.

e) Dominate the various rules attached to the grammar of audiovisual language.

LABORATORY PRACTICE:

The practical component of this curricular unit will allow the student to consolidate the learning acquired in the scope of optics, photography and cinema, through contact and operation of various lighting and image recording equipment.

At the end of this curricular unit, the student should be able to:

a) Understand the formation of an image: sensor, diaphragm and shutter.

b) Master the characteristics and functions of the camera, accessories and lenses.

c) Master the functions and characteristics of different luminaires.

d) Rediscover the Script from the perspective of the Image. Understand audiovisual grammar.

e) Master work procedures.

f) Develop teamwork. Understand the functions of each element. Master shooting terminology.

g) Encourage the research of visual and artistic references in order to create an adequate and coherent image.
