This curricular unit aims to provide students with a broad, in-depth and critical knowledge of contemporary thought, considering the theory developed since the mid-20th century.
By the end of the course, students should be able to:
a) Understand key concepts of the historical changes of the 20th century, especially those of modernity and post-modernity.
b) Distinguish and understand the role of ideology in contemporary cultural systems and its artistic implications.
c) Understand the transformations wrought by post-structuralism and their implications for the notions of discourse and language.
d) Locate and distinguish the different approaches to the mass media.
