This curricular unit aims to provide students with a broad, deep and critical knowledge about the artistic creation from the Second World War, in which a paradigm shift in contemporary art can be identified.

At the end of the unit students should be able to:

a) Understand the transition, in the history of visual arts, from modern art to contemporary art.
b) Identify the main artistic practices up to the present day.
c) Master, conceptually, the following artistic practices: pop art, minimalism, arte povera, land art, among others.
d) Develop a historical and visual reasoning about contemporary visual arts.
e) Master the concepts of conceptual art, performance, installation, postmodernism.
f) Understand, in contemporary art, the place for Portuguese creation.
