Três Dias Sem Deus (excerto)

Portugal, 1946, 25’

A primary school teacher is assigned to an isolated village in the mountains, and on her first day of classes, the doctor informs her that she must leave, along with the priest, for three days. These will be the three days during which the young teacher will encounter the lord of the mountain, feared by the entire village for allegedly setting fire to the church and attempting to murder his own wife.
The first Portuguese feature film directed by a woman.

As every summer, little Salomé returns to her family’s hometown in the mountains of Trás-os-Montes to spend the holidays. It’s a time of celebration and relaxation, but suddenly her beloved grandmother passes away. While the adults quarrel over the funeral arrangements, Salomé is haunted by the spirit of the woman who once was the heart of the village.

A special session in collaboration with the MUTIM Association – Women Workers of Moving Images. In these films, from 1946 to 2022, we witness explorations of the Portuguese rural landscape by two young female filmmakers, using conventions of gothic cinema and even horror.
