One of the main objectives of this curricular unit is to provide students with concepts about the rules of operation in a workshop and chemistry laboratory context, in relation to safety, hygiene and health procedures.

Students should acquire skills in basic chemistry techniques and unit operations, preparing solutions and solvents, handling chemical compounds, storage, toxicology and waste separation. Acquiring skills in the graphical representation of experimental data and basic statistical treatment (errors and standard deviation). Writing scientific reports in the field of chemistry.

Students should acquire behavioural habits that contribute to their personal protection, the environment and the workspace, through the use of appropriate equipment and postures.

Students should acquire basic notions of first aid.

One of the other objectives is to acquire skills in writing technical reports.
