As in recent years, the Escola das Artes will take part in the 48th edition of Cinanima - International Animated Film Festival with the film “Sadness Comes in Waves”, by Joana Leal, a student on the Master's Degree in Sound and Image. The film was selected for the national competition and is up for the Young Portuguese Filmmaker Award (for directors aged between 18 and 30).
A total of 32 works were selected for the national competitions. Among those selected to compete for the António Gaio Award is the short film “Percebes”, by Alexandra Ramires, a teacher at the School of Arts, and Laura Gonçalves.
The film “Percebes”, by Alexandra Ramires and Laura Gonçalves, has already won the Best Short Film Award at the Annecy Animated Film Festival and deals with the life cycle of this crustacean, also touching on aspects such as mass tourism in the Algarve and the development of the Portuguese coast.
The festival, one of Portugal's leading animation film festivals, takes place in Espinho from November 8 to 17, 2024.
