Friday, June 13, 2025 - 13:09

At the invitation of the Portuguese Pavilion, Católica is bringing a two-day program to Expo 2025 - June 18 and 19 - that combines art, science and environmental reflection in one of the biggest international events of the year. The main highlights are Poetry as an Echological Survival”, an exhibition produced by  School of Arts, in collaboration with CITAR, and the seminar “The Sea as Potential and Representation: Unlocking the Power of the Oceans”, organized by Universidade Católica Portuguesa, in collaboration with Sophia University (Tokyo, Japan).

Poetry as an Echological Survival” is an exhibition-methodology by artist and researcher Nuno da Luz. It proposes an eco-sensitive approach to our surroundings, focusing on its atmospheric and environmental elements and translating them into a series of waves and vibrations on a human scale. By paying special attention to the interaction between meteorological, geological and geographical phenomena, it re-situates the experience of the world in each visitor's body - an empathetic sounding board for a myriad of wavelengths.

For the Portugal Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka Kansai, the lighting is modulated in real time by the height of the tides in Osaka Bay, and two suspended gongs vibrate according to wave turbulence data, accompanied by records collected on Yamada Beach, Naraha, Fukushima. Collected by Nuno da Luz in 2018 during a field research trip, these recordings, along with panoramic images of the area - filmed by ci
