The audiovisual essay “O Gesto” (The Gesture), co-directed by Carlos Natálio, professor and researcher at the School of Arts, and Francisco Dias, director and alumnus of the School, was selected for the 11th edition of the Madrid International Film Festival – FILMADRID – which will take place between 10 and 15 June.

“O Gesto” is an audiovisual essay based on “O Sangue” (1989) by Pedro Costa, a youth film whose life leads us to the idea of deconstructing old places and reconstructing new spaces to inhabit and create. This audiovisual essay seeks to show the gestures of both the characters and the filmmaker as the fundamental writing of these transformations.

The audiovisual essay, whose sound designs belongs do Bernado Bento, also professor at the School, is part of the “The Video Essay” section, a non-competitive section of the festival dedicated to film analysis and criticism. This section of the festival is organized through a collaboration between FILMADRID and MUBI, which results in a joint selection of projects.
The audiovisual essay by Carlos Natálio and Francisco Dias will be shown in Madrid on June 15th at 12:30 pm at Casa Encendida and will later be available on MUBI.
