As part of the new Critics Lab of Porto/Post/Doc, one of the critics invited to mentor the selected young critics, Leo Goldsmith, will host a lecture at the School of the Arts. In this open lecture, the American critic, who writes for international publications such as 4Columns, Film Comment, e-flux and The Brooklyn Rail, will talk about documentary and sci-fi/speculative fiction, or how documentary narrates the future. Of particular interest are Peter Watkins's "pre-enactment" films (Punishment Park, The War Game) and how they use documentary strategies to anticipate future scenarios. He will also analyse contemporary examples such as Riotsville USA, The Rehearsal and Mato Seco em Chamas.
