The School of Arts and Porto/Post/Doc: Film & Media Festival are collaborating once again for the 2026 edition, with a joint program that includes a masterclass by filmmaker Jan Ijäs.

In this masterclass, accompanied by excerpts from his short films, the filmmaker shares his creative process: from the origin of ideas to writing the screenplay and exploring filming locations. The session will also explore how the possibilities and limitations of film transform shooting decisions and refine cinematic thinking on location.

In Jan Ijäs’s films, a place, an object, or a phenomenon can take center stage in the narrative. His essayistic documentaries, mostly shot on film, draw on concrete realities to reveal unexpected connections between events, stories, and ways of looking at the world.
