This curricular unit aims to explore different curatorial practices through a series of workshops and lectures with various curators. The aim is to identify not only the difference between various curatorial projects, but also practices that can serve as models:
- Historical curatorial models
- The curator as author
- Theoretical issues in curatorial research
- Independent spaces
- Environmental practices in curating
- Curating private collections
- Historical collections
- Performance curating
- Institutional curating
Curatorial Research I will include the Art Theory and Criticism module (Prof. Nuno Crespo): It will deal with writing as an essential part of a curator's work. What does it mean to write about art and what are the differences between art criticism, art theory, art history and curatorial essays? We will explore different models of art writing from Kant to Walter Benjamin, Clement Greenberg, Susan Sontag, etc.
