BEAST IFF · The Mirages of Freedom - Ukrainian Animation
The main focus of the popular science film experiment was the creative team of the Kyivnaukfilm Studio, brought together by Felix Sobolev. The program presents animated works of this film studio made in the 1980s, which are marked by absurdity and irony.

BEAST International Film Festival will present a selection of animated short films produced by the Ukrainian film studio, constituting a rich and interesting history of the country’s animation. Films selected from the programme “The Mirages of Freedom - Ukrainian Experimental Cinema” presented during the 4th BEAST IFF in March 2021 - in partnership with The Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Centre (Kyiv, Ukraine).

BEAST is an International Film Festival primarily for films with an Eastern European background. While exploring the Balkans, Baltics and Post-Communist countries, the festival contextualizes its work within the context of differentiated debates on film aesthetics, socio-political and film-theoretical topics. BEAST IFF functions as a dialogue forum between East and West, but also as a protagonist and disseminator for creative interaction, all of which can be seen in panels and workshops, lectures and film discussions as well as in the cooperation with other cultural and societal institutions. Marked by leading national publications as "the most interesting emerging film festival in Portugal" BEAST IFF transforms the city of Porto into one important international center for Central and Eastern European cinema. The 5th edition of BEAST International Film Festival will take place in September 2022.
