Pesquisa Curatorial I e II

 

Este curso pretende explorar diferentes práticas curatoriais através de uma série de workshops e palestras com vários curadores. O objetivo é identificar não só a diferença entre diversos projetos curatoriais, mas também práticas que podem servir de modelo:

Projeto I e II

Desenvolver as diferentes fases de trabalho e áreas de intervenção para realização de projectos expositivos; fornecer as ferramentas necessárias à concretização dos mesmos. E explorar os seguintes temas: concepção e financiamento de projectos culturais; a exposição e os seus intervenientes; pré-produção; produção, montagem e desmontagem; serviço educativo; comunicação e marketing.

 

Arte Contemporânea

Contexto generalista da arte moderna e contemporânea, produzida a partir do final da II Grande Guerra, nas suas diversas formas de expressão e variadas manifestações, apresentando os principais artistas e obras que a caracterizam.

 

Teoria e Crítica de Arte

Será tratada a escrita enquanto parte essencial do trabalho de um curador. O que significa escrever sobre arte e quais as diferenças entre crítica de arte, teoria de arte, história de arte e ensaios curatoriais? Iremos explorar diferentes modelos de escrita de arte desde Kant até Walter Benjamin, Clement Greenberg, Susan Sontag, etc.

 

Seminário Interdisciplinar 

Este seminário irá trazer convidados especiais – artistas, intelectuais, curadores – que têm desenvolvido trabalhos artísticos no contexto da arte cinemática, do cinema ou da arte contemporânea.

 

Avaliação e peritagem de obras de arte

Avaliação em contexto comercial; questões de autoria e autenticidade. Análise material de obras de arte (identificação de técnicas e materiais). Métodos de análise de obras de arte por processo fotográfico.

 

Gestão de coleções e conservação preventiva

Gestão de coleções (logística relativa a empréstimos, manuseamento e transporte de obras, reservas, manutenção) e conservação preventiva (levantamento de estado de conservação, medidas de prevenção e controle ambiental).

Course Units 

 

Curatorial Research I and II 

 

This course intends to explore different curatorial practices through a series of workshops and lectures with several curators. The aim is to identify not only the difference between several curatorial projects, but also practices that can work as a model:

 

Project I and II

The goal of this course is to create and develop a curatorial project. Exploring the different stages from research, funding, planning, communication, etc., will lead students to the presentation of a yearly project created in the context of this graduate program. 

 

Contemporary Art

This course will be devoted to the identification of the major areas in post-war visual arts. The goal is to explore and provide an overview of major discourses and practices in contemporary art.

 

Art Theory and Criticism

Writing as an essential part of a curator's work will be addressed here. What it means to write about art and what are the differences between art criticism, art theory, art history and curatorial essays. We will explore different models of art writing from Kant to Walter Benjamin, Clement Greenberg, Susan Sontag, etc.

 

Seminar

This seminar will consist, mainly, in several guided visits to artists' studios, galleries, museums, etc., exploring the internal dynamics of each place and situation and the specificities of their respective modes of production/presentation.

 

Art evaluation and expertise

Evaluation in commercial context; autorship and authenticity issues. Material analysis of art works (identification of techniques and materials). Methods of analysis of works of art through photographic process.

 

Collections management and preventive conservation

Management of collections (logistics related to loans, handling and transportation of art works, reserves, maintenance) and preventive conservation (survey of conservation status, prevention measures and environmental control).
