In early May, a campaign was conducted to examine and analyze on-site the large-scale painting “The Reconquest of Évora from the Spanish by the Count of Vila Flor in 1663.”

Painted by António Carneiro (1872–1930) in 1902, commissioned by Dr. Francisco de Barahona for the staircase of his palace in Évora, this work is part of a doctoral project on the artist.

Through an interdisciplinary approach that combines the exact sciences, art history, and conservation and restoration, the aim is to shed light on the materials, techniques, and artistic methods used by the Portuguese painter in the execution of large-scale works.
